Redcar Race Walking Club ladies scooped the glory at the
National 10 miles Championship at Pickets Lock as they
produced a fine display of walking to humble the
opposition. Karen Wears was the first home with an
excellent time of 95:50 followed closely by Angela-Maria
Paddick in 101:02. Laurayne Readman was the third counter
coming home in 109:58. Another Redcar lady made great
strides too, Helen Starling still a newcomer to the sport
finished in 10th with a time of 111:29. Watch out for this
strong team again at the National 20km!
Redcar's men were unfortunate not to pick up a team medal
finishing 4th without at least 1 key walker. Paul Evenett
produced another fine display finishing 5th in 78:00 with
Martin Fisher, Make Byrne, John Paddick and Dave Jones
following behind. These results prove once again that
Redcar is the premier force and with some new additions and
some seasoned walkers to return the team will be stronger
than ever!

We here at Redcar Race Walking Club would like to
congratulate Paul Evennett on his recent England call up.
It is remarkable to think that only 1 year ago Paul was
struggling to get past the judges and now he is being
rewarded for the hard work he has put in The full details
can be seen in the latest copy of Redcar Walker.

Redcar proved once again they are the team to beat when
winning the Northern 10-miles Championship at
Thornton-Le-Clay on Sunday 8th March. With two of the
A-Team on duty in Switzerland it was left to the B-Team to
bring home the trophy and on a cold, windy and somewhat
unforgiving course Glen Blythman made a successful return
to competitive action taking the title in 1:32:35. The pace
was set early in the race by Dennis Jackson (York CIU) and
Colin Scott (Yorkshire RWC) with Redcar's Mark Byrne just
behind and Glen a place further back. This only lasted for
about 4 miles when Glen decided to take the lead and stroll
the last 6 miles to take the Championship. Mark Byrne held
off a late surge from John Paddick to grab 4th and secure
his first team title with Redcar RWC. The Redcar women's
team also produced a fine display with Laurayne Redman and
Helen Starling showing they are a force to be reckoned
with, but without a third counter could not bring home a
deserved medal.

As mentioned above Redcar's top 3 were in action in
Switzerland on Sunday and I'm sure they'll be very pleased
with their performances. Johanna Jackson once again
improved the British record when winning the Women's 20km
race in 1:31:16. No doubt this will give Jo a good platform
to build upon for the European Cup in May. For the Redcar
men it was equally as impressive as Ben Wears improved his
10km PB to 43:11 and although he had hopes of winning, 2nd
place and a new best time can't be too bad. Finally Paul
Evernett a recent and very welcome addition to Redcar RWC
along with Mark Byrne produced an excellent effort to
finish with a time of 1:36:07 in the men's 20km race. This
result not only proves Paul is getting faster with each
race but also highlights his remarkable efforts to improve
his technique, the future is looking good. All of the days
results confirm that Redcar Race Walking Club is now the
premier club in the country and is a match for anyone.

Congratulations to Jo Jackson on her selection for the 2008
Beijing Olympics! Jo's selection is very well deserved
after a strong winter down under, including a new British
20km record and many other solid performances since. Jo
will join an elite group of walkers who have made it to an
Olympic Games and will become the second member of Redcar
Race Walking Club to achieve this magnificent feat. Let's
hope we can have Jo plus others on the start line in 2012!
All at the club wish Jo the best for the race and hope she
has a fantastic time in China!

Well
done to Jo and Ben! Johanna had an amazing walk in the
Australian National 20km Championship at the end of her 2
month stay in Oz, recording a time of 1-31-40 which not
only knocked around 5 minutes off her PB but in the process
smashed the female 20km British record. This record is well
deserved after the training Jo has put in and it should see
her on the plane to Beijing where we all hope she can go
even quicker and produce another amazing performance.
Ben Wears has also made people sit up and take note after
his awesome debut at 20km. Ben clocked a time of 1-32-38
which places him first in the current UK rankings and at
only 17 he is sure to make some big waves in the sport for
many years to come.
Lets hope that the success continues and Redcar can bring
race walking back to the big time!

Redcar
Race Walking Club is celebrating more success after
scooping the UK Awards 2007, Off Track Club, North East. Up
against some stiff opposition in Gateshead Harriers, Redcar
held their own and won through. The club is now entered
into the National Awards and with our recent exploits who
knows what might happen!

Both
Johanna and Ben performed well at the recent National 10km
Championships at Earls Colne finishing first and third in
their respective races. Jo's time of 47:49 was another
excellent performance especially considering the effort she
has made this season. Ben was slightly down on his usual
fast pace coming home in 48:06 but with the season drawing
to a close it will make little difference to him. Both are
now enjoying a well earned rest along with Dave Jones who
has just completed the gruelling 28 hours race in Roubaix,
France. Dave completed a total distance of 197km in the
time limit and finished a very creditable 14th and was the
first Brit across the line. Well done Dave, you've
defintely earned that beer!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Johanna
Jackson held herself together well in Osaka at the World
Athletics Championships and finished a creditable 25th
ahead of some seasoned athletes. Her time of 1:39:34 was
not her best time of the season but in conditions where 9
walkers failed to finish it was good enough for her to be
among the best in the world, well done Jo! The winner of
the gold medal was Olga Kaniskina who won by over 30
seconds in 1:30:09. Kaniskina dominated from start to finsh
and will be delighted to improve on the second place finish
she achieved in Leamington Spa at the recent European
Cup.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jo
is now in Osaka, Japan, getting ready to compete against
the best race walkers on the planet in the World Athletics
Championships. Jo has made remarkable progress this season
and will be hoping to perform well on the big stage. It
will be a tough test as conditions in Osaka are certainly
not conducive to fast distance races but I'm sure Jo will
do both the Great Britain team and Our club proud. GOOD
LUCK!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Redcar
goes from strength to strength with both Ben Wears and
Johanna Jackson being selected to represent Great Britain
at two major international competetions. Ben is currently
in Ostrava, Czech Republic at the IAAF World Youth
Championships. His race is 10,000m on the track and we are
all hopeful of a high finish especially after some good
recent performances.
Johanna has made her way over to Debrecen, Hungary for the
U23 European Championships. There is likely to be some
stiff opposition but once again a top ten place is well
within Jo's reach as she continues to impress with some
great times in 2007.
John Paddick will make his final bow in the Blackpool 50
miles on Saturday 14th July. John has decided to call time
on the long distance races and will be turning his
attention back to 20km and below, this will come as a
relief to some but others will be may be starting to
worry.
